Laura Chu Stokes

Laura Chu Stokes (NCTM) has been a pianist and music educator for almost 50 years. A graduate of Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in piano performance and a nationally certified teacher, Laura has taught hundreds of students in her private studio and as the director and an instructor at Appalachian State University’s Community Music School. She continues to teach group piano proficiency classes and coordinate the annual Hayes School of Music Piano Competition for pre-college pianists each fall at ASU.

As a performer, Laura has been a staff accompanist and collaborative artist with her husband and professor of trumpet James Stokes. She has also performed with the Columbus and Cincinnati Symphony orchestras.

For the past three decades, Laura has been invited to present both in-person and online workshops and clinics for E-Znotes.com, a full line of music learning tools developed by her mother, Lucy Chu, in 1989. Laura also has been a featured speaker on pedagogical topics for MTNA, state/local MTAs and music dealers/retailers nationwide.

She is currently a contributing writer for the Alfred Music Publishing Co. blog.
